Hello everyone. If you're reading this, you either know me, or somehow magically found this on your own.
Since trips to Alaska are pretty rare, especially at this time of year, I figured I keep a blog so you all can read and see about my wonderful adventures.
Mine started off at 3:30am ET when I got up so I could leave my house at 4:30 am so I could get to National Airport at 6am for my flight which left at 8am. My flight landed in Anchorage at 3:30pm AK time (that's 7:30pm ET)
Now, look at the first photo. That's my legs pressed up against the seat in front of me. And the scary thing is, the seat in front of me isn't even reclined! I had to put up with that for 11 hours! (got to stretch a bit during the pitstop in Seattle) Luckily, neither of the two people who sat in front of me reclined their seat. On the second leg, (Seattle to Anchorage) a traveling flight attendant sat next to me (male unfortunately.) He at one point decided to help out the flight crew so for about an hour, I was able to let my legs spill over into his seating area. Airlines, please stop cramming us into these small seats. At the very least keep the emergency exit row seating for us tall folks. Can't tell you how much it annoyed me being squished while a 5'5 woman had more room than she ever needed in the exit row.
Next 5 shots are from the mountain range outside of Anchorage. I really tried to get this one awesome shot during our descent. We we're still above the clouds, and one small set of mountains peaked through them. Alas, the only view I had was from the window in front of me, so I didn't have a shot.
After getting my baggage, I headed out to my rental car. I nearly froze to death. I was still wearing light clothing (Didn't want to arouse suspicion at National for wearing a thick ski jacket) As you can see from the dashboard pic, it was a balmy 9 degrees!
The final shot is a lamppost. I've never seen one before and felt compelled to take a photo. Actually, this is the view from my hotel room. I love how this city is surrounded by the snowcapped mountains. It's beautiful. Especially if you can move away from the downtown area so you don't have the ugly buildings in front of you.
I met up with my brother-in-law who's in town on business. We had dinner and he gave me a quick tour.
Tomorrow is snowmobiling out to the glaciers. Hopefully I'll have plenty of great shots to show you.

I don't know you, and I'm lucky :))
Nice to share your "journal" ! I do understand what you mean with those seats in planes. They should have one or two rows for tall and big fellows because it is a drag when a "normal" is sitting next to them. When you unerstand their pain, you are travelling in pain also as you give of your space to help and share ... :)
